For all the effort that religion puts into keeping everyone 'old-fashioned' it loses a leg or two to stand on when you consider the very fact that religion itself (Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, etc..) has *evolved* over the last thousand.. two thousand years.
For example, Christianity has warped the Jewish religion from it's orthodox roots back before the time of 'Christ' through force. Quote - "From the Spanish inquisition, to racial profiling, to the sanctions enforced on it when the Jews exodused from Russia to the USA; Judaism is such a faint image of it's ancient self that even today's 'orthodox' Jews would be considered wildly liberal by those thousands of years in the past."
Such is the same for every religion; as time, technology and society have warped the interpretations of the ancient scriptures into an easily-palatable doctrines for the modern masses to follow. Even many passages and laws noted in the King James bible are considered outdated and ignored by even the most devout Christians today.
That's my arguement against the self-important proclamations that the Christian religion puts out regarding morality and homosexuality. Such institutions are so modernized that it seems quite evident, looking back on the last 2000 years of humanity, that the laws and restrictions of the day are PURELY based upon the whims of the religion's leaders at the time. In turn, the masses appear to be sheep, blindly following the words of a few men without stopping to think for themselves in a logical pattern. This is no knock on you or anyone who follows the faith. Many of my good friends are religious.
I realize that it is easier to lead people as a mass than it is to persuade them one by one. While one may feel their thoughts are their own, their blind spot lies in the fact that they do indeed have a leader whom they look up to for guidance. The very fact that there are more flavors of Christianity than Shivana can handle speaks for itself, to me at least, that religion isn't about being a good soul for God, it's about being right and getting as many people as you possibly can, by any means necessary, to agree with you.
